Pay fairly, publish it
Every price we pay farmers is on our website, lot by lot.
Roastelle started with a secondhand roaster in a garage and a stall at the Saturday market. We're still small, on purpose.
We wanted to roast coffee that tastes like where it comes from, and to run cafés where the person making it knows the person growing it.
Today we roast about 38 tonnes a year for three cafés, 6,000 subscribers and a handful of restaurants we love. Every coffee is bought directly, roasted in small batches and served by people who can tell you the name of the farm.
Every price we pay farmers is on our website, lot by lot.
We cup every batch the day it's roasted and bin the ones that miss.
Nobody leaves without being asked how they take it.
Compostable bags, grounds to the allotment, milk from glass bottles.
Two friends, a 1 kg roaster and a stall at the Saturday market.
Nine tables, one long bar and our first direct-trade lot from Guji.
A 15 kg drum in Tannery Yard, with a tasting bar next to it.
We hire our first bakers and the cardamom bun takes over.
Our solar-charged espresso cart pours its 100,000th cup.

“The cardamom latte ruined every other latte for me. I now plan my walk to work around the Canal Street café.”
“Came for the flat white, stayed for the bun, left with a bag of Kolla Ridge. The staff actually explained how to brew it.”
“Our subscription arrives every other Monday, four days off the roaster. The house blend is the only one my espresso machine likes.”
Tastings every Saturday at 10:00 at the Roastery Bar. Free, first come, first sipped.
